At the beginning of my entrepreneurship journey, I was twenty-one years old. Graduated—lost. Had big dreams but did not know how to achieve them. It was not until I started reading the mindsets of successful people did I begin to adapt the necessary mindset of achieving my goals. After success came, only then, I felt it was important to share these thoughts. Welcome to 'Motivated Joan’.

Life lesson: The wrong people will teach you the right lessons. There is a purpose to every person you meet— some good, some bad, others significant, and others insignificant. Sometimes, the purpose is not immediately clear. Some people are here to test you, some to teach you, and some to use you. Each soul and their individualized purposes will either enhance or challenge a particular facet of your personality, lifestyle, daily habits, or mindset. When it enhances, it brings out the best in you {keep these souls close}. When it challenges, it could bring out the worst inside you.. you will be frustrated, angry, ashamed, weak. You will feel these emotions deeply. Some might break you— to the point of where you loose yourself or what you believed ‘yourself’ to once be. When you feel this emotions, take a moment to step back and thank the souls in your life that brought them upon you. The/se people are teaching you about yourself: your likes and dislikes in relationships, your strengths and weaknesses, and your comfort zone and limitations. Through these meeting and interactions, we discover parts of ourselves we did not know. Take a moment to thank them for either all the harm or goodness they have brought to your life. Why? There’s a bigger plan and you will learn from these experiences. Each and everyone is adding to your personal book of knowledge.

The art of utilizing information is not easily attained. At all moments of the day, we are constantly given information of all kinds. We receive through observation of the human senses or communication of others. It’s a filtration process of keeping the important facts and disregarding the insignificant. It’s a practice of exercising judgement and acting accordingly. The gold can be in the details. It’s important to focus on the minute components because this area is where great ideas are born that become multi-billion dollar businesses. A small product or thought that improves the overall human experience is traced back to a small inconvenience someone once had and this person decided to take the initiative and pursue it. Jeff Bezos wanted to buy his books online so he created an online bookstore... look at Amazon now. Never discredit the minute

In creative industries there are artists and entrepreneurs. There are those who create their art to share with the world. But there are others who have the same creative desires but their vision does not end there; these are the rare breed of creative entrepreneurs. They have the ability to create but also do not sell themselves short. They know their worth and are willing to starve until you see it too. They utilize information and leverage it to their fiscal advantage.

At Coachella, Arianna Grande was paid $8 million for her performance. Meanwhile, Beyoncé negotiated to only be paid $4 Million; however, she requested exclusive rights. She sold it to Netflix as a three-project deal that is worth $60 million. The first installment, Homecoming, Beyonce was paid $20 million. In addition to this lucrative deal, she has created a live album from her Cochella performance and earns money from streaming rights. Beyonce is a prime example of the creative entrepreneur; she stay true to her art simultaneously acting as a business woman.

Being a creative is a gift but being an entrepreneur is a choice—a hard choice. It involves sacrifice, starvation, rejection, and self-transformation.  Nevertheless, it has the greatest amount of freedom and reward than any other option.

Let them talk about you, against you, for you. Let them talk but let these words roll off of your back. Like a raindrop hitting a raincoat—never penetrating the surface and sliding right down until the water falls off the coat completely. It’s only chatter. Allow them to judge you. Allow them to misunderstand you. Their opinions and criticisms are not your problems. Your only concern is you and the path you are paving for yourself. And the pursuit of your dreams. Focus on the important and do not give attention to anything unworthy of your time. You value yourself too much for that. ⠀⠀

March 27, 2019

Adopt the mindset of a racehorse. Your eyes have blinders and you cannot set anything outside of your line of vision: the track. Your mind, body, and emotions are all aimed to succeed in the task you have placed before you: the race. You anxiously await the clock to begin and your heart pounds. At the very moment the gates open, you’re off and running the greatest competition. Every cell in your body is working together simultaneously. The doubt, the hate, the questioning is all on the outside of your blinders. You push on and go for the gold. There’s many betting on you: to fail or to win. So, who are you going to let win?

March 21, 2019

It’s in our blood to compete. We push ourselves because our kind thrives on survival of the fittest. Competition allows us to break down any mental barriers that we have created for ourselves and we discover the true extent of our physical possibilities. More importantly, others are not your competition. Your toughest competitor is your ego, your procrastination, the unnecessary calories, your neglect of detail, your negativity, your lack of nurturing your relationships, and your lack of harnessing your greater power. Compete against that and release the greatness that is already within you. That’s the CEO mindset.

March 19, 2019

It’s crazy how people think 2-5 years in business is a long time to get rich, but do not feel that 40 years at a job is a long time. Don’t forget the bigger picture; a job is to pay for a living. Don’t let it define your happiness. You work to live, not live to work. Work on what makes you happy. That is where your life’s greatest satisfaction lies.

Number one sign you are meant to test drive Entrepreneurship: you fear regret more than failure. The idea of not measuring up to anyone’s standard beyond your own does not impact your actions or decisions. Instead, it’s the idea that had a shot and you choose not to take it. It could the best or worst decision that you will ever make, but you won’t regret it.

March 1, 2019

As an entrepreneur, you experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It’s a roller coaster that few choose to ride. It involves a lot of climbing and adrenaline. But when you reach the top, take in the whole view. It’s beautiful up there. It’s a wild ride that’ll make you want to ride it again even if you didn’t like a sharp turn or two.

February 28, 2019

Whether you think your can or you think you can’t. You’re right. Control your thoughts and you control your destiny. Keep your head high and your skin thick. You’re going places my dear.

January 15, 2019
Lately, I have unintentionally allowed small fears to interfere with my life. All of them together have added to a big impact on my overall quality of life—something that I am not okay with. I have prevented myself from doing small things that I don’t believe I am strong to try or other emotional relationships that I stop myself from being ready for. I am finally recognizing my habits and now actively trying to change them for the better. Times like these are when I remind myself that if it is not a fear for survival, then fear is not real. It’s is a product of the thoughts you create. Danger is real but fear is a choice. Thoughts have tremendous power and affect our outcomes in our everyday relationships. Sometimes, we forget that we have the power to control those thoughts. Therefore, we have tremendous power to effect the grand positive change on our lives. We all have steps that we need to take to progress on self-growth and improve our beings. The first step is acknowledging, recognizing a cycle, then break it. For me, I recently had to dive deep into my emotions and recognize what I value and finally start making changes to my actions to match. These are not easy tasks but they are the most worthwhile. Look fear in the eyes, then let it go.

January 14, 2019

Take a moment and I welcome you to step into my shoes. Travel down my path, hike my mountains, my canyons, in my weather. Experience my unexpected hardships, my triumphs, my failures from my perspective. Feel the heartbeat. Experience the brutal icy chill of the wind in your face. And push on. If you can continue down my path in the manner that I currently do. Only then, perhaps, you will understand my choices and my strength. • Everything we see is a perspective, not a truth. Two people can look at the same exact event, object, or what have you and see something entirely different. Two people can look at the same woman; one might believe her to be wildly naive. Meanwhile the other, saw something the other didn’t through his own past experience. She was not wildly naive, in fact, he believed the opposite: she was dangerously intelligent. One object; two radically different views. When your goal is to gain experience, with perspective, and knowledge, failure no longer becomes a possibility.

January 13, 2019

Don’t tell me that I’m not ready. Whichever course you decide upon, there will always be someone to tell you that you are wrong; that you are not enough; that you do not have what it takes. To be a champion is to believe in yourself when no one else will. You must have the ability to tune out the meaningless chatter of the nonbelievers— they are irrelevant. Stand strong and ignore their words. There will be nonbelievers and doubters. Then there will be you, proving them wrong. Where your success becomes a sweet revenge; no other feeling compares. Have you ever met a hater doing better than you? Neither have I...

January 10, 2019

When you’re working long hours, you manage to forget what day of the week it is. You’re slightly disoriented but pushing through because you know it what you have to do. To go through the motions and keep your consistency alive. Your inner purpose fuels the motivation within you when you’re running on fumes. There will be times when your brain will exhaust before your body and vise versa. You can be mentally exhausted before physical exhaustion or the opposite. You loose track of the second, the hour, the day—eventually, you loose track of yourself. You’re somewhere in between giving up and seeing what you can take. But you know you’re never going to give up because you remember you live in a world where you don’t get what you wish for. You get what you work for. Perseverance is all you know. It’s the act of doing the hard work. And then more hard work. If you sit with a problem long enough, a solution will emerge. You know to be patient. Some things take time, especially the greatest things in life. Everything happens at its own pace. You remember that what comes easy won’t last. And what lasts won’t come easy. You remind yourself you are not living this life the “average” way because you crave more. And you won’t settle for less. At times, you get impatient but you calm yourself and remind yourself the goal. Briefly, look back on where you started. Now, take a deep breath. And keep going.

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” -Mark Twain • Here’s a secret: the most successful people follow passion not paychecks. It starts with a small interest— a spark of inspiration. Something you love to do, a hobby, a sport, a reading— something that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning, something that makes you want to tell everyone you know about how great that one something is. The day you find your ‘something’ will be the day you find out why. It’s a day you will never forget. You could be towards the end of your life, somewhere in the middle, or just at the start of it. It happens at different times for everyone. For me, it occurred towards the start of my life. I was eight years old at summer camp in Paradise Valley, Arizona and one of our activities was a “fashion design class”. A girl named Emily attended Parsons the New School for Design in New York City; she majored in fashion design. She came home that summer to earn some extra cash to teach the basics to young girls. I fell in love with the mood boards the sketches and, furthermore, the idea the idea that we can adorn our bodies in anyway we want. It became a passion of mine immediately and it never left me. My parents waited for years for me to change my mind. They would ask me every year what I wanted to do with my life.. I always responded the same, “live in New York City and be a fashion designer.” My mother wasn’t thrilled because that meant leaving Arizona to live on the other side of the United States. As time went on, I did exactly those things. Initially, I aspired to be like Donna Karan, a womenswear designer, who I share a birthday with. Over time, my pursuit of becoming a fashion designer was refined and slightly redirected to menswear. One thing you should take away from this story is that you do not commit only to the sprint; you commit to the marathon. And then some.

January 8, 2019

At the end of my life, I want to look back on my experiences and know that I made mistakes. That is proof that I was trying. Failures are inevitable. Success is attainable. I want to look back and see how far I’ve come. Reflect on the hard work and determination I put into pursuing my passions, which is a risky bet that I have made to chase an emotionally fulfilling life. I recognize that the hardest times in my life have done nothing except aid me in who I have become. When I’m old and gray, I want to look back on all the progress I’ve made and be glad that I didn’t give up when it felt like it was my only option. Life is a beautiful set of checks and balances; they all even out at some point. It’s easier to look at the difficult times with disdain but I choose to look at them with respect. I want to look back on all the mistakes, pain, and heartache because I know that when I look in the mirror I only see the strength, learned lessons and pride from those difficult times—the times I wanted to give up. At the end, I want proof that I tried for something greater than average.

“Entrepreneurs are the only people who will work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40 hours a week. And an entrepreneur doesn’t leave the work to someone else. They work those 80 hours because they are in control of their success.” -Lori Grenier • When nothing is certain, anything is possible. Embrace the uncertainty. Trust the wait. And, enjoy the beauty of becoming. Entrepreneurs are the masters in the art of embracing uncertainty, utilizing unforeseen events as leverage and, ultimately, making it work to our advantage. It’s the mastering of emotional flexibility and dexterity. It is not the road for the gentle-hearted. You must be willing to get in the down and dirty. You must be willing to get bruised and battered along the way. You encourage the dreams and ambition but know that they mean nothing without action and hustle. It’s the fighting combination of having a vision and a want for creation. It always seems impossible until it’s done. So, get working.

January 7, 2019

Come on, step into my office. Now, listen up. Let me tell you something that you already know; the world is not all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it. The world is going to knock you down. That’s fact. Don’t deny it. Compose yourself when you are lying down, beaten with bruises and cuts. Calmly stand up, smile, and politely say, “is that all you’ve got?” It’s not about the hit you took, it’s about your inner strength to endure and push on. That’s the champion mentality. Sometimes, you have to get knocked down lower than you had been to stand back up taller than you were before. You have within you, right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you. Reach deep inside your soul. All the way down to the shattered memories of experiences that you forgot you had underwent. You’ve been through rough times before and you will go through more. It’s only going to get harder from here. No one has the power to hurt you without your permission. You’re in charge of your energy and what thoughts consume your mind in a day. Anyone can give up. It’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else thought you would fall apart, that’s true strength. Follow the 5/5 rule. You’re upset— Will it matter in 5 years? No? You have 5 minutes to let all that negative energy consume you and let your tears out. Use this opportunity as a release. But you shouldn’t let it waste more of your life than 5 minutes, especially if it will not matter in 5 years from now. You have all the tools with in yourself to heal yourself, it’s one of the body’s and mind’s greatest powers. You needed the reminder. Sometimes, we forget. That’s all—my door is over there.

January 6, 2019

On average, you are faced with 35,000 choices per day with the assumption that you have seven of hours of sleep, which are blissfully choice-free. The numbers signify 2,000 decisions per hour or one decision every two seconds. Do I hit the snooze button? Do I stand up or go back under the sheets? Do I wash my face? Do I take a shower in the morning or the afternoon? Do I go to the gym before work? Coffee or tea? Caffeinated or decaf? Subway or uber? Umbrella or no umbrella? The list goes on. Decisions are bets. You make an informed decision with the hope and intention that it will benefit your life emotionally, financially, or physically. Thinking in bets leads to smarter decisions when you don’t have all the facts. I bet I need that Umbrella today, my weather app says it’s not going to rain but it’s very dark and cloudy from my window. I bet it will rain in the next 6 hours that I’m outside so I will take it. The reality is we make an extraordinary number of decisions in a day. Many of these are made in our subconscious; many are deliberative. Life is about decisions, our bets. Some bets we loose and we will regret. Some will pay out big time and we will experience euphoria. The message: we are what we choose, or bet, to be. Never underestimate the power of the small decisions because they add up to be big choices. Decision is the ultimate power.

January 6, 2019

Great leaders never set out to be a leader. They set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role— it’s always about the goal. Focus on what you want to see in your life. If you search for negativity in this world, you will find plenty of it. If your only intention is to search for good, you will only see that. Intentions are the fuel to manifestation your goals and visions. An intention will help you create more clarity in your life. The power of intention is the power to manifest, create the life you’ve always dreamed of living. Start with the questions: how do I want to be? How do I want to feel? What are the important tasks? For what will I give myself thanks? How will I nourish myself? Intention is the power to saying ‘no’ to the unimportant things in order to create enough space to say ‘yes’ to the things that matter most to us. Every day we have a choice: to live with intention or exist by default. Love less out of habit and one more out of intent. It’s more fulfilling, I promise.

January 2, 2019

Create meaningful relationships and do meaningful work. This mantra is what drives me. It aides in my everyday decision-making processes. It is one followed by Ray Dalio and was one of Steve Jobs. The key word is “meaningful”, which can be defined in multiple ways. The mantra’s beauty is these same words signify multiple definitions to multiple people. Meaningful is defined as having a serious, important, or useful quality or purpose. Each person defines what that purpose is for their life. Everyone has their own and it is something that you have to define and create for yourself, no one can do it for you. For me, mine is passion. “If you organize your life around passion, you can turn your passion into your story and then turn your story into something bigger—something that matters.” -Blake Mycoskie

January 2, 2019
Do not wait; the time will never be just right. Perhaps, you put your fitness goals on hold because you wanted to indulge in sweets over the holiday season. Next excuse that will happen will be that it is your birthday season and you must indulge in cake and alcohol. There’s never going to be a good time to start; the hardest part is just starting. Whether it is clean eating, going to the gym in order to achieve your body goals, or dropping everything to pursue a dream you have. You can plan everything as much as possible but you must expect things to not go according to plan. Things will fall apart. Things will change because there are elements beyond your control. Embrace those changes and leverage them to use them to your advantage. Do not shy away in fear. Have faith in the power of yourself and push forward. Fear the missed opportunities, not the potential failures. You can do this. You can achieve anything you want with persistence and consistence. You must be willing to do what the other 99% of people are not in order to have what they don’t. Today is Day two of the new year, 2019. Use your days wisely. Focus on the little choices of meal prepping instead of eating out. You will save thousands of unwanted calories this way. These small decisions lead to bigger change if you make enough of them. Your goal is to enforce lifestyle change. 2019 could be the year that changes your life. Do not worry about should have or could have started sooner— your thoughts will prevent you from making progress. Focus on your present and the right now. Make today your day one.

December 31, 2018

No one can go back in time and change what happened. So, work on yourself and focus on the present. You will have to change to go to new levels. Change should mean growth. Those who are not prepared for new levels will ask you to remain the same; but that’s only because Greatness makes them uncomfortable. Everyone isn’t willing to make it. Anytime you’re going to grow, you’re going to loose something. You’re loosing familiarity. The comfort of no surprises and enjoying the predictable. When you go through growing pains, it makes you learn and adds to your book of experiences. You will be left with bumps and bruises. But more importantly, it makes you tougher down the road. And, that is something no one can take from you. Focus on yourself; Make bold choices and make mistakes. All these little things add up to the person you become. Trust me, that person is worth all the bumps and bruises along the way.

December 30, 2018

Breathe in. Breathe out. This is the beginning of anything you want. It’s the new year. 365 new days. 365 new chances. I don’t believe that you need the spirit of the new year to help motivate you to chase your dreams of a new body, career, or relationship. I do believe that it helps. But, the truth is, all you need is a Monday. It can be the week that changes your life. This Monday might not happen tomorrow. It could be in the dead heat of summer on a Saturday in July. Whenever it is, that will be day one. The day you decided that your dreams were worth chasing. The day you put value and invest your time, effort, and money into yourself. Follow the 21/90 rule. Commit to your personal or professional goal for 21 straight days. At three weeks, you’ve established a habit. If you can push through to the 90 straight day mark, you will then have established a permanent lifestyle change. One for the better. If you start with the new year, you can change your lifestyle around the beginning of April for the better. • “The secret of change is to focus all your energy into building the new.” -Socrates. • The spirit of new year is beautiful because it makes us believe that anything is possible. It’s filled with determination and resolutions. Truth be told, not everyone holds these goals and dreams well into the new year. They forget or do not prioritize them any longer. With consistence and persistence, you can achieve anything you want. You cannot loose sight of the goal—your goal. Are you a priority? Yes? Good. Then put your goals and you at the forefront. If you don’t have the time, make the time. Shift your mindset. We are all given the same 24 hours in a day. And 365 days in a year. This is your year. This is the last day of 2018, Enter 2019 fiercely.

December 30, 2018

The ultimate balance is between movement and stillness; the body requires movement meanwhile the mind requires stillness. There is no wrong movement. Only one of lack of preparation and lack of awareness. A still mind is an indication of inner peace, which begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions—a tough lesson we learn in life. Most people confuse a still mind with a blank idiotic mind. Don’t confuse the two because it is far from it. A still tiger is not a blank or idiotic tiger. Both a still mind and a still tiger are alert, aware, poised, and ready. Train your mind to be calm in every situation. Train your body as a champion trains his or her own. Strength is shown in moving large amounts in physical capacity and, also, in isolation. Strength is both movement and stillness. Strength is not built overnight. It is a product of time and practice. It doesn’t come from doing the things you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you thought you couldn’t.

December 29, 2018

Aristotle is quoted saying, “Excellence is never an accident. It is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.” • Excellence and success are the results of meticulous planning, constant hustle, early mornings, and even later nights. Successful people believe that hard work is the key to success while unsuccessful people just think it’s just luck. There is no such thing as luck in the world of business. Our society loves to focus on “the overnight successes”. Yet, we don’t consider the years, long hours, of planning, refining, and hustling that went into the foundation for creating that “overnight success”. Things are only as strong as their foundation. If your business is taking longer than you had hoped for, don’t worry. You are building its foundation and in the long-term it will be better off for it. Patience is not for the light-hearted. Keep pushing and be thankful that things didn’t happen overnight because that means they can crumble just as quickly as it was built. The best things in life are not easy or else everyone would be doing them.

December 29, 2018

You are not a product of your circumstances. You are a product of your decisions. Even the smallest of decisions can have the largest impact on your life. Everyone has a different starting point in life. Everyone’s path is different: has different sceneries and varying obstacles. The scariest moment is the one before you make the executive decision to start. You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great. Every pro was once an amateur. Every expert was once a beginner. At some point, you have to stop overthinking and start taking action. The starting point is not that important, especially in comparison to the ending point. You cannot go back in time to make a new beginning. But you do have control over your ending. Every decision that you make in a day has its affects, short-term and long-term. Decide wisely.

December 28, 2018
All relationships have one law: never make one feel alone especially when you are there. If you are with your significant other, they should always feel comforted by your presence. Being together is a choice. In the relationship with your dog, she or he should be delighted by your presence. You are your dog’s whole world. She waits for you when you are not home with her. In the relationship you have with yourself, you should never make yourself feel lonely. You are all you have. You pick and choose the people you keep in your life. There’s always a reason for it. They might not always be there but they will always be there for you. All relationships— between you and your parents, your friends, your significant others— go through hell but the real ones get through it. Remember that. Don’t second guess yourself if it didn’t work out. It wasn’t supposed to.

December 28, 2018

Life is a series of balances; some days will be productive, others will be filled with procrastination. Some days are filled with love, others heart break. Some days are spent with people others are just lonely. There are days that you spend reevaluating your decisions and your directions. These days allow you to decide if you are maintaining that balance or not. You must work hard but you can’t let it take over your life, you will loose yourself. Love but love for the right reasons. Life is too short for anything mediocre. Know who you are and know you are worthy of reaching your dreams and creating the life of your dreams. No two dreams are the same—one of life’s greatest beauties. Use these days wisely because they don’t come often. Decide your path, your dreams, achievements, and your people. Decide what you want. Write it down. Make a plan. And work on it every single day. Realize that every decision you make comes with its benefits and sacrifices. All actions have ramifications small and large. Be aware. Like I said, life is a series of balances. Make your decisions wisely, carefully, and stick to them.

December 27, 2018

“The Dream is free. Hustle is sold separately.” -Tyrese Gibson • You may see me struggle but you will never see me quit. Struggles are required in order to survive in this life; to understand standing up, you must understand falling down. Success is not achieved from what you do occasionally, but from what you do consistently. Join the team of the hustlers. We do not fear going slow. We only fear standing still. Your dreams demand hustle. In order to join the hustle, you must have heart. We, hustlers, do not simply “do”. We act. Each and every one of our actions has intention and passions behind it. We act out of a purpose we have created for ourselves. That purpose was found out of a deep soul-exploration. We know that success does not happen overnight. We have our eyes on our prizes and we push. We have that innate hunger to build, create, and try. It’s the ability to make things happen in light of knowing how to get there. We do not fear failure— we only embrace it. We are courageous enough to try and fail. Fall seven times, stand up eight. Our blood is filled with determination and aggressive work ethic. It takes a lot of rejection and redirection. It’s requires loss, battle, and resiliency. But we, the hustlers, would have it no other way. We are all given the same amount of time in a day. You choose how you want to use it. Not everyone is a hustler, but no glory is ever achieved without the hustle.

December 27, 2018
Finish strong. Give it all you have until the finish line. Your muscles can’t give anymore? Give more. Don’t stop putting in the effort until you have crossed that finish line. Then you can recover. Effort is the only thing within your control—control it. It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort. When you bring this effort repeatedly, day after day, that’s where change happens. It’s time for you to experience true transformation. Put one foot in front of the other. Repeat. Your knees feel like it time to give out. Keep pushing. Cross the finish line unforgettably.
You don’t have to be a good starter. 2018 is coming to a close. For some, the year didn’t start well. For others, like me, it crumbled towards the middle. You have the power to heal yourself and put back together what was broken. The journey you’ve had was not perfect? That’s fine. Every year will have its up and downs. The best thing to do is focus on things within your control: potential solutions, keeping your emotions in check, and your effort. The important part is how you finish any race or any year. So, Finish it off strong. You can catch your breath later.

December 26, 2018

Life has shown me that growth is not for everyone; some people want to stay the same. Some of these women aim to find a man who is already established and adopt his world. A strong woman will be a part of his struggle, through its treacherous up and downs because she has faith in him. The best part? He would want the same with her struggles and he will fight through them because he has faith in her. Together they will survive and build an empire, each of their own. The unity of two bosses can build an empire, it’s proven. Imagine the empire you can build if you find a king that is loyal, honest, and matches your hustle. Never settle.

December 26, 2018

“When you’re 20, you care what everyone thinks. When you’re 40, you stop caring what everyone thinks. When you’re 60, you realize no one was ever thinking in the first place.” -Winston Churchill • What you think of yourself is much more important than what people think of you. Self-love is so important. There will be soul-shattering moments when you will find yourself crying in the shower because you don’t want to see yourself cry. Instead you tell yourself it’s the water from the shower head, not water from your eyes. It could happen at 6 am in the morning or 4pm in the afternoon, but who is going to be there for you? You. You have to pick yourself up and find the strength to move on. At the end of the day, you are all you have. Loving yourself isn’t conceit, it’s love, which signifies is the acceptance, encouragement, and care. Love is not “because”, it is the act of unconditional nurturing “in spite of”. Conceit is none of these things; it is the belief that one is better than others and he or she is determined to prove it constantly. Growing up, I never truly recognized the difference between these concepts. As I mature I have discovered that, self-love in necessary and aides in adding to your self-worth. You have nothing to prove to anyone. You alone are enough. Anyone special who comes along the way is just an added bonus.

Trust the magic of new beginnings. Endings can be devastating. Of relationships, jobs, dreams you thought you had— whatever it might be. You will hurt when it ends. But that’s the point. Pain is meant to be felt and it is the ending. Not the end.
The past has shaped you to who you are today and is preparing you for the next chapter of your life. You do not need to be embarrassed or ashamed of the past. Sometimes we focus on things in the past that didn’t turn out the way we wanted. I believe it’s better to focus on enhancing your present in order to create a future better than you’ve ever imagined. Focus on who you are today. Be happy it happened but also be happy it’s over because there are better things to come.
The time after Christmas and before New Years Eve is a magical time because it is filled with everyone reviewing their year. New goals, new resolutions, and new dreams are formulated. It’s the time of year that people look forward with hope and not backward with regret. It’s my favorite time of year. Get planning. Don’t forget, Nothing is impossible.

In 2017, a principal at a school in Singapore sent out a letter to the parents of the students during exam time. He wrote, "The exams of your child are to start soon," the principal wrote. "I know you are all really anxious for your child to do well." The principal continued: "But, please do remember, amongst the students who will be sitting for the exams there is an artist, who doesn't need to understand Math… There is an entrepreneur, who doesn't care about History or English literature…There is a musician, whose Chemistry marks won't matter…There's an athlete…whose physical fitness is more important than Physics… If your child does get top marks, that's great! But if he or she doesn't…please don't take away their self-confidence and dignity from them. Tell them it's OK, its just an exam! They are cut out for much bigger things in life. Tell them, no matter what they score…you love them and will not judge them. Please do this, and when you do… watch your children conquer the world. One exam or low mark won't take away…their dreams and talent. And please, do not think that doctors and engineers…are the only happy people in the world." • We tend to forget that we cannot be perfect in everything. We each have our strong suits and our weaknesses. A good leader is one that is able to identify these characteristics in herself and others. You find people whose strong suits are your weaknesses and build from there. Many high-performing countries, like Finland, already deemphasize the importance of exams. As a student, your focus is a good report card and that precision focus sometimes allows us to loose sight of the grander picture.

Wake up at 5 am. They say, “that’s too early”. Go to the gym at least once a day. They say “why? I hate working out”. Spend countless hours working instead of going out. They don’t understand. Don’t expect people to understand your grind when they do not have your vision. Sometimes, we risk it all because we see something that someone else wasn’t given the power to see. They will never understand. The good news? You are doing it for yourself and not for them. When you succeed, they will then ask, “how did you do it?”. Never let someone else’s opinion or view interfere with your vision. You know what’s right for you. You feel it in your gut. Trust that feeling. Your intuition knows best. Listen to it.

December 22, 2018

If you’re not making progress, you’re making excuses. There is no in between. Progress is not inevitable, you have to put the time, work, and dedication to go where you want. Do not discredit the smallest of steps. If they are in the right direction, they are still valid. Small progress is still progress. Things will almost never happen overnight and if they do, they can be destroyed just as quickly as it was built. When things don’t happen right away, just remember, it takes 6 months to build a Rolls Royce and 13 hours to build a Toyota. The best things take time, precision, and meticulous execution. You can choose to be a Rolls Royce or a Toyota. The choice is yours. I choose to be the Rolls Royce.

“Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone but when someone is unkind to me, weak is not what you’re going to remember about me.” -Al Capone • Go ahead, underestimate me. You won’t be the first. You won’t be the last. But you will be wrong. Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because his editor felt he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” Several more of his businesses failed before the premiere of “Snow White”. He went onto to be the guy who redefined American Childhood. Oprah Winfrey was publicly fired from her first television job as an anchor for Baltimore for getting “too emotionally invested in her stories.” Today, she amassed a media empire and she is worth $3 billion, according to Forbes. Steven Spielberg was rejected by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts multiple times. He went on to create the first summer blockbuster, “Jaws” in 1975, has won three Academy Awards, 4 Emmys, 7 Daytime Emmys, and his 27 movies have grossed more than $9 billion. Do not underestimate yourself; you would be surprised by what you are capable of if you would just start executing and stop listening to what other people believe. Do not judge me until you know me. Do not underestimate me until you have challenged me. And do not talk about me until you have talked to me. Exude kindness and stillness, for you are stronger than what others may believe you to be.

December 21, 2018

Work hard they say. Work hard and you will achieve the success that you always dreamed of. Persevere in working so hard you sweat, you will achieve the American Dream they say. It is one of success, fulfillment, and lifetime happiness... that’s what they say. You can work hard but if you don’t work smart, you’ll be working the rest of your life. You’ll only create sweat, not results. It’s not the weight you carry every single day that breaks you. It defines you because the manner you carry it demonstrates your strength, your dedication, and your limitations. If you don’t work smart, you will face consequences. You will burnout. You will be fatigued. Your health will ultimately be affected. You will not achieve your set goals. Your productivity levels will plummet. You will have a loss of self-worth. Your output will outweigh your input due the fact that your efforts are not being maximized. Work smart. A sense of self-fulfillment will overcome your being. You will be content in your achievements. Your output will outweigh your input. Your effectiveness in time, cost, and results will maximize. And, then you will have enough energy and desire to go the extra mile. Stay positive, stay consistent, it will happen.

December 21, 2018

Inhale. Stop what you’re doing. Put the phone away. Go offline for the night. Now, Exhale. There will be days that will test your limits. These days will throw you into an emotional spiral and perhaps, even break you. Every time you break, it adds to your emotional flexibility. Don’t worry. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not even the end of you. Take a step back to regroup. Inhale and laugh. Remember your context; remember who you are and why you are here. What is your purpose? Emotional flexibility is one of the greatest underrated strengths. It is the ability to recognize, release, and regulate your emotions in changing situations. Heraclitus, Greek philosopher is quoted saying, “The only constant in life is change.” The context you are acknowledging right now will change. Relationships, technology, politics, income, emotional maturity— nothing is stagnant. Exercise that flexibility; don’t be afraid to feel your feelings. You cannot heal what you cannot feel. We will experience the full range of human emotions in our lifetime. If you feel these emotions, they pass. If you suppress them, they linger. It’s the philosophy of going with the flow. Some look at those people as “pushovers” when in reality they are strong enough to have the ability to be open minded. It’s the flexibility in your convictions and thoughts. It’s a sign of maturity. Recognize the difference. These days that test your limits, they will pass. You are not given anything that you cannot handle. Even if you doubt you cannot do it, you can. That’s just a mental limitation that you have created for yourself. Something that can and will be broken and expanded at some point in your life. Inhale. Feel the emotions these bad days bring. Exhale. Now, let them go.

December 20, 2018
I hope in the year to come that you make mistakes. Big ones. The fact you are making mistakes is absolute proof that you are trying. The bigger the mistake, the more courageous you are being. Things don’t always work but that only makes you value and cherish the times when they do work. The only detrimental mistake you can possibly make is if you continually fear to make one. If you live this upcoming year with the same habits and the same mindset, you will produce variations of the same results. You’ll be living the same year that you’ve lived in the past with different times, places, and maybe faces. 365 days. 365 new chances for change and you will only be left with a choice. Do or don’t do? Try or don’t try? Do the things you never thought you could. Push yourself to places you never imagined. Do not limit yourself. Forget all the reasons that it won’t work. Focus on the one reason why it will. Success lies when you change your perspective because you can change your world. A New Year is on its way and the possibilities are endless. Don’t squander them. Your best is yet to come.

December 19, 2018

How beautiful is it when someone expects you to break out in an outrage and you just look at them in silence? You act the opposite of what they expected. He or she cannot fathom the peace that you are exuding. Self-control. Like a muscle, The more you exercise self-control on a daily basis, the stronger you get. Every action is proceeded by a thought, if you want to control your actions, you must control your thinking. The goal is not to rid all your negative thoughts and feelings, that’s impossible; the goal is to change your response to them. You cannot control other people but you can control your reactions to them. Some live a lifetime of misery and frustration because they attempt to control things beyond their reach. Your thoughts, visualizations, and your actions are the only things you can control. If you learn self-control, you can be a master in anything. It’s a learning process.

December 19, 2018

As you continue your journey, you realize that persistence is not enough. There’s another choice at hand, you can persist as a sufferer or a warrior. As a sufferer, you complain every step of the way. As a warrior, you welcome and embrace the change that is happening before you. Never blame any day in your life. Good days bring you happiness. Bad days give you experience. And worse days give you a lesson. To be the best you must handle the worst. And always look for the silver lining. Never forget that.

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what the storm is all about.” Haruki Murakami • You believe that you cannot within stand the storm. You’re wrong. You have all the power in the world inside of you: strength, love, forgiveness, anger, violence, resistance. Some believe the storm will swallow them whole and they will never emerge alive. It’s time to realize that the world is rough but you’re tougher. You are the storm. That’s the warrior mentality. Prepare for battle.

December 18, 2018

I have been fighting since I was a child. I am not a survivor. I am a warrior. I will not give up. I will not waiver. I will eradicate negative thought. I will conquer. My spirit is resilient. Many years have passed. Some good, some bad. The road might be long. The journey challenging. Many dangers lie ahead. Rest if you must, but do not stop venturing forward. Turning back is not an option. You never know but your next step could be the moment of triumph. Your next battle could be your greatest victory. Keep your head tall and your core tight. A new year stands before us. It’s the next unwritten chapter. This year’s finish line is nearing. Do not stop now. Finish strong. Even if the year itself wasn’t your strongest. Give it all you have until the very end. You’re exhausted? Keep pushing. Some of us fear the fire. While others simply become it. The choice is yours.

December 17, 2018

There comes a point where you have reached your end. You’ve reached your breaking point. It could be in anything, your relationships, your career, etc. You think that this is it—the end. I cannot do anymore. I have nothing left to give. I am done. I am no more. Little do you realize that this particular moment, when it feels that all is completely lost, is your starting point. It’s time to get to work. Everything in your life is shattered. Good. It is time to pick up the pieces, one by one, and start sewing them back together. It will take time. It will take effort. This is the moment when you can say I’m sick of my life the way it is. That’s a fair statement, if it’s true. You are the one living your life. If you are sick of it, change it. Change your daily habits. Old habits produce the same, old results. Adapt some new habits, obtain better results. It’s decision time. What do you want out of this life? How bad do you want it? Are you willing to set the 5 am alarm clocks? Are you prepared to get out of bed only wanting to crawl back under your sheets? Are you prepared to not make sacrifices, but make choices to create the lifestyle not that you want, but that you deserve. Success is a result of effort. When you’re at your lowest of lows, there’s no where to look but up. You will build incredible strength pulling yourself out of your low point and it will only propel to unprecedented heights. So, yes, you’re breaking down right now. But you are also at the starting line. What are you going to do when the whistle blows? Go.

December 17, 2018

Entrepreneurship is the science of failing until it works. Many of us refuse to start because of a little something called atychiphobia, in other words, the fear of failure. When we allow that fear to stop us from doing the things that can move us forward to achieve our goals. Causes of atychiphobia are linked to critical or unsupportive parents due to routine undermining or humiliation as a child and these negative emotions are carried into adulthood. Symptoms of fear of failure include a reluctance to try new things or get involved in new, challenging projects; self sabotage including procrastination, excessive anxiety; Low self-esteem or self-confidence by saying negative statements such as “I am not good enough “; And lastly, perfectionism, the willingness to try only those things you know that you will finish perfectly and successfully. It is impossible to go through life without facing failure. There are two ways to see failure: 1. It’s the end of the world or 2. There is a lesson to be learned here. Life lessons are very important they encourage personal growth and we improve our future actions. These lessons prevent us from making the same mistake twice. Doors will get slammed in your face. You will make bad decisions. You will fall. But think of the opportunities that you will miss if you let your failures stop you. All successful role models have experienced failure to some degree for example Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team due to his coach believing he did not have skill. Warren Buffett was rejected by Harvard university. We fear the unknown; but what if we embrace the unknown instead? Analyze all your potential outcomes and it will help to remove that fear. Build your self-confidence through positive thinking. Look at the worst case scenario and rationalize that fear. F. E. A. R. Is False. Evidence. Appearing. Real. Your greatest glory lies after you’ve fallen. Your potential for greatness lives within yourself and only you can channel it. You are your greatest ally. Do not fall into the trap of self-sabotage. You are the best project that you will ever work on. Make it a masterpiece.

December 17, 2018

Recently, many close to me express the concern that they feel they should be further along career wise than they currently are. Firstly, career milestones and age should not have a correlation. Things happen at their own. pace. And the more ambitious your dream is, the longer it could take. It be worth it. At the age of 23, JK Rowling was broke. Tina Fey was working at the YMCA. Oprah had just been fired as a TV Reported. Walt Disney declared Bankruptcy. It’s going to be ok. Your present does not define your future. Do not get discouraged. At the age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter. Vera Wang failed to make the olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the editor-in-chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at the age of 40. You are not expected to have it all figured out. Life is a rollercoaster that takes you to places you never even imagined. Usually for the better. Alan Rickman gave up with graphic design career to pursue acting at the age of 42.  Samuel L Jackson didn’t get his first movie role until the age of 46. Morgan Freeman landed his first major movie role at the age of 52. Louise Hay didn’t launch her publishing company, Hay House until she was 62. Your dream may take a little longer, but it will come. Age doesn’t define our career milestones. We each have our own unique paths; never compare yourself to others, only to yourself. Rid the idea of where you believe you should be. Only focus on where you are and where you want to go. It will take time. It will take determination. It will take sacrifice. But, never doubt for a second that it won’t be worth it.

Champion: a person who has defeated or surpassed all rivals in a competition, especially in sports. Champion: a person who fights or argues for a cause on behalf of someone else. Whether or not you’re a champion on the field or a champion for a cause, you are apart of the small group of people who believe in themselves when no one else does. You get up when you can’t. You know talk is cheap and don’t waste your time with the chit chat. Instead you allow your actions to speak for you and they speak louder than your words ever could. You are propelled by desire, determination, and hard work. You have faith and dedication and obstacles do not stand in your way. You are willing to fight through anything because you have faced a whole lot of heartache and defeat. Fear does not limit you. It does not frighten you. But furthermore, it does not stop you. It’s all about heart and you are strong enough to make yourself as vulnerable as possible because you know you can handle the pressure, the disappointment, and the pain. It’s the gamble of getting everything or loosing it all. But the reward outweighs the risk in your eyes. What do you do? The only answer is whatever it takes. Be a champion.

December 15, 2018

Self-discipline. Your ability to listen and to take action based on your inner voice— regardless of how you feel, other influences, or temptations you face— is the key to self-mastery. You work day in and day out. You put the time and effort. Your small bite of progress every day add up to achieve big results. There might be moments you are discouraged. Fall seven times, stand up eight. You don’t let those moments consume you. Instead, you pick up your grit, reach inside of you to channel your inner strength, and push on. Motivation doesn’t happen every single day. Sometimes, it’s all about having the discipline to go through the motions. You learn to control your impulses and desires because you are focused on the your goal. Everything you do is put towards achieving that goal, whatever it might be—big or small. Self-discipline distinguishes between what you want now verses what you want most. Think of it as a muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. It is not a negative restraint but rather a positive life management tool. Remember what you want. What you want from life and yourself. Then, it makes it all the more easier to focus and attain your wildest dreams. Respect yourself and your dreams enough to have the self discipline needed to achieve those dreams. You must rely on no one but yourself. Push on.

December 14, 2018

Obstacle: a thing that blocks it hinders progress. Obstacles are not meant to stop you. They are meant to test you. Designed to point to a new route and to confirm if what we want is really worth fighting for. They are strategically placed and their beauty is that they serve as reminders to remind us of our inner strengths. When something bad happens you have three choices: you can let it define you, let it destroy you, or let it strengthen you. There will be obstacles. There will be mistakes. There will be doubters. But with hard work, there are no limits. “The true test of a champion is not whether he can triumph but whether he can overcome obstacles.” -Garth Stein.

December 13, 2018

Our deepest fear is that we are inadequate. The idea that we don’t live up to other’s expectations terrifies us. Life is about doing things that make you happy, not to please other people. You are not here to live up to anyone’s expectations but your own. The idea we should be further than we currently are is not real. Things happen their own pace as long as you constantly make progress and strive for your goals. You must provide your own light in the darkness. There’s no one to guide you but yourself. You are stronger and brighter than you think you are. The future is unclear, but it’s still mine.

December 13, 2018

Important facts about life: “No.” is a complete sentence that does not require explanation or justification. For those of us who love to please everyone, you need to learn to say no sometimes without explaining yourself. The power of saying no is stronger and harder than saying yes. We have limits with our time, energy, and interests. We must prioritize and allocate accordingly. In the past, I be realized every time I said yes when I truly meant no, I set myself up for self-sabotage. You must identify and put your needs first. Setting boundaries is a way of caring for yourself. It doesn’t make you mean, uncaring, or selfish. It’s caring for yourself, which is a necessity. You live under no body’s requirements but your own. Don’t overextend yourself. Be knobs to yourself and know your limits and abide by them. “The art of leadership is saying no. Not saying yes. It’s very easy to say yes.” -Tony Blair.

December 11, 2018

Sometimes just a little love is all you need. Having a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness. Sometimes we focus on being so dedicated to our careers, our daily responsibilities, our painfully slow commutes, and negative everyday minutiae that we fall into the trap of negativity and complain. The waiter was rude, the commute was long, the weather is bad. We then start complaining about people—their personalities, their appearance, their defining qualities. Negativity spreads faster than positivity. It’s the easier thought. Sometimes, we need to take a second and show ourselves and the people in our lives a little love. Remind them that you are happy to have them and they contribute to your life for what it is today. As a child, we take for granted spending the holidays with our families because we focus on the presents. As we grow, it’s no longer about the presents because you realize that having the ability to spend the time with your family was a gift in itself—one you took for granted. It’s the time of year to be reminded of compassion: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity can not survive.” -Dalai Lama . We rise by lifting others, never forget that.

December 10, 2018

Welcome to the real world. There is no syllabus nor instructional manual. There’s the haves and the have nots. The doers and the watchers. You will be criticized. You will be judged. There is no where to hide. Eyes are everywhere and technology is proving true. Drones are our new eyes in the sky and we have cameras protecting us and recording us on almost every street corner and outside our house. Your privacy is invaded. Your culture is invaded. There are no limits. It’s a tough place to live in. It’s rough; you can fall and get crushed. You will not always be sober. Your heart and soul can be destroyed a million times and put back together. The real world is messy. It requires effort. Things will fall apart but not everything is worthy of mending or crying for. You will be battered. But your entering the greatest fight. It’ll leave you with some bruises but your skin will become thicker. Welcome to the real world. It sucks—you’re gonna love it.

December 10, 2018

“I am” are the two most powerful words in the English language. Due to what you put after them shapes your reality. I am strong. I don’t sit around feeling sorry for myself not do I let people mistreat me. I don’t respond to people who dictate me or try to bring me down. If I fall, I wise rise even stronger because I am a fighter not a victim. I am in control and there is nothing I cannot achieve.

December 9, 2018

Two things define us; our patience when we have nothing and our behavior when we have everything. The good times never expose to someone’s true character, it will only peak out in their hardest moments. No matter who tried to teach you lessons about life; you won’t understand it until you have experienced it for yourself. It’s better to look back on your life and say “oops” rather than “what if”. Life is inherently risky, so it makes sense to embrace the uncertainty, unpredictability, and precariousness of it and fly. But follow the one rule of thumb: make a mistake once and it becomes a lesson. Make the same mistake twice and it becomes a choice. The real fact of the matter is that we do not know what tomorrow is going to bring and the only thing that we really have is the right now. So, don’t stay angry for too long and learn to forgive. One of the admirable and healing qualities someone can have to the ability to forgive when someone shouldn’t be forgiven. Don’t mean you allow them back into your life but you do forgive them. Love your friends and family with all your heart. Enjoy the small moments and live your life how you want to live it. Things can change in an instant so, enjoy everything in the right now and those special people in your life. Fly with those you choose are worthy. Those who are the most patient in the worst of times and those who have a wonderful attitude in the best of times.

December 9, 2018

Honestly, my goal is to build a life and career, where I am not constantly waiting for the weekend. I don’t want to live that way, where I hate 5 days of the week because I hate my life and my job so much, that the only relief I get is Saturday and Sunday. I want to enjoy my life, not wish it away every week. I want each day to matter to me, in some way, or even some small way. I want to like my life. All of it. Not just my life on the weekends. Time is too precious not to cherish it.

The only way to achieve this goal is to not compare yourself to others. You can only compare yourself to the person you were yesterday. Progress is the only thing that matters.

December 8, 2018

The brave do not live forever but the cautious do not live at all. Do what the 99% are not doing. Don’t just aspire to make a living. Aspire to make a difference. Anything you want is with in your reach. Once you adopt this perspective the way you see the world changes. Once you realize that everything around you was created by human hands just like yours, you see things a little differently. The walls you live in to the building itself. It was one person vision and it was manifested into a reality through hard work and dedication, a powerful combination. There are days you don’t just feel like working out or working on your project. I do them anyway. I go through the motions despite how I am feeling. Push through on the other side is greatness. Nothing worth having comes easy, remember that.

December 7, 2018

We may never see eye to eye. We are not the same height. We physically see things from a different perspective. We’ve walked different paths of life. Does not mean mine or yours is wrong but they were different. I have done the 9-5 and I made some money but there wasn’t enough skin In the game. I craved the hustle and the whole reward for my labor. Every time I worked on a project, I felt it should have been done a different direction but I wasn’t the one calling the shots. I realized I was visualizing a dream or a concept that no one else could see. I knew I needed to hustle. And the Hustle isn’t only working on the things you like. It means doing the things you don’t like so you can do the things you love. Invest in your dreams. Grind now. Shine later.

December 7, 2018

Reminder that it only takes 21 days to enforce habits; eat breakfast, go to the gym, make your bed, learn something new, tell them you love them, stay hydrated, love yourself. You should also recognize your bad daily habits such as taking things personally, holding onto the past, checking social media 24/7, over stressing, sleeping in late, fueling drama, having a poor diet, overthinking, and pointless small talk. These habits are commonplace. I, myself, actively work to break these habits. A little progress everyday adds up to big results. Creating healthy daily habits will eventually add up to a healthy outlook on life. We go through so much in life on the regular, we do not need to add to our own stresses. Healthy habits combat them. Get started.

December 7, 2018

You wake up early; they don’t understand. You workout early; they don’t understand. You dare to do exercises that intimidate others; they tell you be careful you might push yourself too hard. You push yourself constantly; they tell you to stop. You eat healthy; they ridicule you for your “too healthy” food choices. You work so hard you pass out from exhaustion; they say don’t work as hard. You chose not to go the 9-5 path; they didn’t understand. Then they, turn around and do not understand why they are not getting the same results you are. Same habits produce same results. If you want to see substantial change, you need to substantially change your daily habits. You are not here to fit in with the world. You are here to create your own.

December 6, 2018

It’s never too late to pick up a new skill. I recently took a stab at photography. As an adult, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that your learning opportunities have come to an end. This concept can also be applied to a new career path. It’s never too late to start. Here’s a quick list of 10 wildly successful entrepreneurs who began after the age of 40: 1. Donald Fisher, the Gap, age 41; 2. Lynda Weinman,, age 40; 3. Herbert Boyer, Genentech, age 40; 4. Bob Parsons, Godaddy, age 47; 5. Chip Wilson, Lululemon, age 42; 6. Charles Flint, IBM, age 61; 7. Thomas Seibel, Seibel systems, age 41; 8. Bernie Marcus, Home Depot, age 50; 9. Bill Porter, E*trade, age 54; 10. Robert Noyce, Intel, age 41. Sometimes we have created this life plan in our head where we imagine ourselves at the age of 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, etc. And when we reach a specific age, we feel as though we should be so much further than we are. Everyone has their own path and it is different but it doesn’t mean it is wrong. We each have our own set of lessons and experiences that we need to go through and, perhaps, one needed to undergo certain incidents before starting a company of their own. These imaginary milestones we have created for ourselves are not real. If you are feeling as if you should be further right now, use that frustration and transform it in energy and motivation to take steps to change your life in the direction of your dreams. Don’t get upset, get moving.

“Once we understand that imperfect understanding is the human condition, there is no shame in being wrong, only failing to correct our mistakes.” No one reached the highly coveted destination without rejection, failure, heartache, or stress. The only way to reach success is through failure; fail your way to success. When we fail at something we get discouraged and unhappy. At this point that is when we usually want to give up. The one common quality of successful people is that they never give up. It is possible to achieve success through constant failure. Being defeated is temporary. Giving up is permanent. Keep going.

By sharing, we learn we are not alone. We learn that we are not all that different after all. We are all human. As humans, we make mistakes, fall short and take the wrong turns. We simply must allow ourselves to move beyond our regrets and our disappointments into the warm-light of self forgiveness. Mistakes happen but they are proof that you are trying. Striving for something bigger than yourself. Embracing failure is beneficial the struggle makes you smarter. Everyone talks about theirs successes but not the tumultuous road of obstacles and downfalls along the way. Sharing our experiences allow us to learn from each other and draw lessons from one’s experiences. Mistakes such be expected. Respected. Inspected. And, finally, corrected.

Dear Body,
It wasn’t until recently I discovered how brilliantly you are designed. You have the ability to withstand great pain. You have the ability to work continuously for periods of time. You have the ability to heal yourself. And the ability to change drastically with weight fluctuations. You are not too fat or too skinny. You are not too old or too wrinkly. Your nose is not too big and boobs are not too small. No matter what shape and size you have been you have carried me my whole life. In the past, I may not have maximized your usage or capabilities. You have enabled me to travel the world. You picked me up when I have fallen. Fought through sickness, broken bones, and broken hearts. For the future, I promise to treat you well with my eating choices and consistency to working out. You will take me to the very end. May our relationship improve from here on out.
With Love, Joan Dominique

Everything as you know it can change in an instant. An unexpected fire can destroy your childhood home. Your best friend can move for her dream job tomorrow. A loved one can pass. There’s an endless list of things that can happen that can just change everything and it can happen oh so quickly. It’s important to cherish the right now. As an entrepreneur, you apply that whole concept to your life. Let’s say things are rough but depending on the deal it can all change tomorrow. You have to be flexible and clever enough to survive life’s punches. It’ll happen so quickly. We are an impatient society that wants immediate results when the best things in life require time and patience. So, don’t think about what can happen in a month or a year. Focus on the next 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.

One day it will just click... you realize what is important and what isn’t. You realize who is important and who isn’t. You learn to care less what people think and more about what you think of. Yourself when you thought things were black or white. Then you learned that life only consists of shades of grey. You realize how far you’ve come and you remember when you thought things were such a mess that they would never recover. And then you smile because you are proud of the person you have become. You fought the great fight. The best part? You know you’re no where near done.

One should never for less than what your soul deserves. I watched a video recently where a teacher held a 20 dollar bill in the front of the class and asked those who wanted it to raise their hand. All hands went into the air. The teacher than crumpled the bill and repeated himself, “ who still wants the bill?” All hands remained. He then proceeded to drown it in water and repeated himself. All hands hesitantly remained. The teacher then threw the sopping wet bill on the ground and stepped on it. And repeated himself. “Who wants the money?” The class was in silence. The teacher explained, “no matter what happened to this twenty dollar bill, you still wanted it. It’s value never wavered. Like you, you can be crumbled, drowned, thrown on the ground, and put through hell. But your value doesn’t waver either.” It’s important to know what you deserve and your worth. Then double it.

Hard work creates nonstop chaos. My work with @maisonjoandominique, usually references gods and goddesses from Greek mythology because it has influenced many areas of human life: medicine, sexuality, astronomy, language, astrology, and psychology to name a few. In Greek mythology, chaos is often described as a place that exists away from the influence of gods and goddesses. Hesiod describes it as the area that sits above the underworld and under the heavens. It is usually described as gloomy and misty. Today, we define ‘chaos’ as complete disorder and confusion. For you, the goal is to find the calm within the mess of it all. For some, chaos becomes the normal. Embrace the pandemonium. Do not fight it because it will not disappear. Without a little a chaos, life would be dull and plain. And we wouldn’t want that for too long anyway..

Savor the littlest of moments. I grabbed a book that I haven’t opened in a very long time, only to find some dried orchid flowers I had placed there nearly 2 years before. Valuing the small things means to be present in your everyday life. Acts such as putting your phone down and identifying the moment you are in is a great start. Where are you? What do you hear? What does it smell like? Are you cold? Who is there? How do you feel? Are you grateful for this moment? These small moments improve your days and, eventually, these improved days will improve your life. The littlest of things can have the biggest of impacts.

No matter who tries to teach you about life, you will never understand it until you have underwent those experiences on your own. Life is about experiences; some will bring you to euphoria and other will bring you to hell. But that’s it purpose. It is to live it, taste it, and, ultimately continue to dine its path and learn as many lessons as possible. There is no such thing as a wasted experience. Everything in life is meant to make you grow and help you become who you dream to become. Life is the journey of becoming and the best part is that you don’t have a clear idea of its destination. Recently, there was some loss of life in my family. It has done nothing but make me value the right now. We are creating memories with our loved ones that we will cherish. It has also made me value my dreams to an unprecedented amount because the thought of leaving this world without pursuing them terrifies me. Keep venturing, the journey is the best part.

The path of entrepreneurship is not for the light hearted. It’s for those strong enough to believe in themselves when no one else did. To constantly push forward even in time when everything is falling at their feet. Everything can change in an instant in this path. Entrepreneurship is a gamble. I hope you’re comfortable in a casino. It’s the game of all or nothing. No cards. You can land up with everything or end up with nothing. Not just in the reward and the risk but also in your commitment to the path. You are all in, or out. There’s no in between. No grey area. No wiggle room for any negotiations. Recognize the difference between interest and commitment. Being interested in something typically happens out of convenience; meanwhile, commitment is that you accept absolutely no excuses. Only results. Your motivation gets you started. Your commitment is what keeps you going. Most people fail due to a lack of commitment, because that idea does not exist. You are completely dedicated to your cause or you are not. It’s the world of high stakes. The way I see it is, life in itself is a gamble; terrible odds. But you follow your gut, utilize the education you’ve received to place some bets, roll the dice to. see what happens. And if you’re going to gamble, bet on yourself. The dealer is impatient, roll the dice.

Honest. Being free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. It’s unfortunate how often I experience or witness others being dishonest in my everyday life. I have experiences with some who only know how to lie to get what they want. With me, the times they tried being honest, it didn’t get them what they wanted so they had to revert to their dishonest ways. A vicious cycle. What I will say is this.. an amazing thing happens when you’re honest with yourself in terms of who you love, what you want to do with your life, and who you want to keep in it. You focus on what makes you happy. Life slows down and you no longer wish for te weekend. You no longer are waiting for special events. Each day is more fulfilling than the last. This is where you’re real life begins. No secrets, no lies. You will be shocked to the places that honesty takes you. Once you are completely honest with yourself, you become completely honest with others. Honesty reinforces relationships between people, but it can break them. It also helps weed out the people who are not supposed to be in your life anyway. After you’ve become honest with all, you move through everyday steadily and constantly content. A veil is lifted and a new perspective is born.

For most, people use their social media accounts to portray their ‘best life’. They travel to exotic countries, eat decadent meals at lavish restaurants, and take groups pictures with lots of their friends. The goal is to portray the character that they want the world to see. Not the character that actually exists. It’s a careful curation in which these people execute a picturesque lifestyle. It’s their version of happy, which is attractive. Even the ‘happiest’ of people have tragic moments. Perhaps they portray a happy life when, in fact, they are suffering from depression. The most confident people even suffer from moments of self-doubt. The most positive of people with face moments of negative thoughts. These are the moments that do not appear on Instagram. The moments of what it means to be human. The moments you question your abilities. Tears, emotional fits, anxiety, confusion, and self-doubt never rise to the surface of social media. Not by words or photos. It’s not a bad thing but it is a reality that we need to acknowledge and accept it. Social media showcases the persona we want people to see. It doesn’t show our greatest fears, our most devastating moments, our most tragic memories, and our deepest secrets. We should never compare to these personas that everyone has created for themselves. Individual progress is the only thing that matters. Focus on the progress that you have already made. Stop comparing yourself, appreciate what you have now, and the opportunities you are constantly being given. There are many people who would kill to be in your position and remember that each day is an opportunity to work toward your goals. It’s all about the motivation. So, put it in drive.

Almort. (Adj.) half dead of exhaustion. Exhaustion is the fuel of champions. A true champion sweats worries and inhales ambitions. Climbs up obstacles and and takes on responsibilities. A true champion executes the race with no doubts, full-confidence, and absolute precision. During his or her training there were setbacks. There were days of weakness. There were breakdowns. There were mental and physical boundaries destroyed which had to be rebuilt. The best part is, the new boundaries were built better than before and provided more room for growth. When the body exercises a funny thing happens, your muscles tear. Sounds like a bad thing but it rebuilds itself. The muscle grows bigger and stronger. The physical soreness creates a fighter. The mental exhaustion creates a strategist. Pair the fighter and strategist together you have a true champion. One who fights and has weak days. And he or she sees those days as the days he or she is working the hardest. The mindset and mental vision is there but the body cannot provide in that moment. Nothing to judge someone for. Those who keep running, climbing hills, and eventually conquering mountains, are the ones to be afraid of. They are the ones striving when no one is looking. They are not doing it for validation from others. They are not doing it for the attention. Focused on their personal drive. A unquenched thirst for creating something bigger than his or herself. A fear that he or she might leave this earth without a legacy. Without contributing something of substance to our society. A fear of disappearing without a trace. This fear. This unquenched thirst. This motivation. This ambition. This exhaustion... builds the champion for the race. He or she excels not by happenstance. It’s by choice. In the midst of it all, exhaustion permits time of rest for the body and for the mind. These days can be and are just as crucial as the days he or she is sweating and fighting his or her hardest. Know your limits. And push them until you cannot anymore. Persistence. Consistence. Brilliance.

Shifting. Life never stays the same. It’s constantly shifting from on second to the next. You are constantly shifting simultaneously because time does not stop. It does not stop for anything or anyone. Your relationships, perspectives, values, outlooks, tastes, strengths, skill sets shifts. Everything eventually shifts. Every thought you have impacts you. By shifting from a thought that weakens, shift to one that strengthens, you will empower yourself. Once you realize that you are not the person that your used to be you become more tactful and aware. One day the person you are now will be a stranger to who you will become. Experiences, time, tragedies, and newly found wisdom affects how we shift. Shifting is constant; it can be positive or negative. It is important to focus on positive thoughts, energies, & habits. It will change your life. Have positive thoughts. String together lots of positive thoughts to create a positive day. Aim to create a positive day everyday, one by one, you create a positive life. You begin to understand the value of your voice and there are specific situations that no longer deserve your time, energy, and focus. You value your imperfections as much as your perfections. We are all a work in progress. And, the best part, the progress never ends. We are constantly evolving beings. Keep striving & never settle.

There are two types of lifestyles one can choose in life: 9-5 or the 24-7. One offers security and the comfort of knowing where your next paycheck is coming from. It limits any surprises. It is the non risky choice. It is the easier choice. The 24-7 choice is one where you dedicate you to only you, yourself, and your dreams. It does not rest unless you do. Instead of handing your 40 hours of work for then next decade a week to the benefit of another’s company, you hand your 80 hours of hard work in a week for the next couple years to aspire and achieve the dreams you’ve set for yourself. Being ambitious and an entrepreneur leads you to the highest of highs but it does not come without its risks. It has the ability to reach the lowest of lows. It’s the balance of life. Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t. So that you can spend your life like most people can’t. Your path of 9-5 or 24-7 is yours. On the 24-7 path, you will sacrifice, you will work hard, you will work smart, you will build your empire, and, most importantly, you become the master of your destiny. This definition of “entrepreneur” is the best I have found to date: “Entrepreneur: a crazy person who risks their own money for freedom, rather than exchanging their money for freedom.” Choose your path wisely. Today’s Food for thought. About a year ago, I dropped everything and decided to pursue my dreams following the philosophy of do what you love and the rest will follow. I found a problem I had with my own shoes, so I decided to fix it. It’s been an incredible journey so far and I’m not looking to end it anytime soon. Cheers 🥂 to the incredibly risky and entertaining path I’ve chosen for myself. I do not regret it one bit. Encourage others to do the same.

“Damaged people are dangerous. They know what they can survive.” -Fight Club • Yes, rough times are horrible. They can crush your soul into thousands of pieces but how and when you pick those pieces up is how you truly define yourself. The only way to truly understand and get to know a person is when you see them enduring the worst time of their life. When we are distracted by the everyday minutiae, we forget that the tough times are temporary but the beauty of it is that they create tough people. You become strong because you recognize your weaknesses. You are fearless because you have faced your biggest fears. You are a lover because you’ve experienced hate. The tough times function to same way as the best times in your life on your character: it breaks down the boundaries for yourself and expands your thinking. Once you have pushed yourself to understand your biggest fears, weaknesses, strengths, love, hate, or whatever it might be. You become the quietest and calmest individual in the room. Be afraid of that person. For they have nothing to fear.

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Helen Keller • Any Dream- big, small, silly, serious, chase it. Stop calling it a dream and begin referring to it as a “plan”. That will be day one instead of one day. It’s the start of a new courageous you where you are risking any kind of notion of security that we have created for ourselves. Chase the dreams that are now your plans. Never settle for a life of quiet desperation. Your life should be an adventure filled with memories and interesting stories. It’s an ongoing story and you’re the main character. The best part is that you get to do the writing of where it goes. You remember the nights you did not stay in bed at home and order seamless for the millionth time. The best nights and memories are shared experiences with loved ones, new strangers, exploring new territories, expanding your emotional horizons and pushing yourself to go further. My biggest pet peeve is when someone says they don’t like something but it’s because they never tried it. It’s time to live the life of the adventurous and not regret a minute of it. Be open to the new and exciting. It’s worth it.

November 7, 2018

“I choose to by choice, not by chance. To be motivated, not manipulated. To be useful, not used. To make changes, not excuses, to excel, not compete. I choose self-esteem, not pity. I choose to listen to my inner voice, not the random opinions of others. I choose to do the things that others won’t do that I can continue to do the things that others can’t.” • Placing the importance on everyday minutiae is dangerous. The meeting at your cooperate job didn’t go as you planned, the job you wanted was not given to you, or he didn’t call after the first date when he said he would. Sometimes it’s as silly as you had a bad hair day, and it somehow has enough power to throw your entire day off balance. That’s only if you allow these everyday details to have that type of power. Yes, you had a bad hair day, that sucks but let’s put it into perspective, you have hair while other are fighting to keep theirs. The best way to create personal perspective is to simply ask yourself: “what’s the end goal?” You didn’t get the job you wanted at your corporate job. That’s frustrating. But in the larger scheme of things is that where you imagined yourself spending your next 10 years? What’s the end goal? If you are not able to say I want to become partner and eventually, C.E.O., of that company. Then don’t allow these obstacles to cause you internal stress. So, he didn’t call. What’s the end goal? Is it marriage and kids in the next 3 years? No? Then don’t allow that distracting interaction penetrate your emotions and cause you a stress of any kind. Our dreams, plans, goals, priorities, and values all create an individualized path for ourselves. In the everyday, we sometimes forget the grander scheme of things that we have planned for ourselves and our lives. Perspective allows us to let the little things go and protect ourselves from unnecessary stress. We already have enough stress in our everyday. Cherish yourself and your desires by aiming to live a stress-free life with clear vision for your tomorrows. It’ll eventually become your reality. Just wait.

“I have no understanding as to why, when you’re 18 to even, let’s say 30, why you wouldn’t try to make what you’re passionate about work for you... if you go and become a lawyer or go to school and do all the things that you really love, the real question isn’t what’s going to happen when you’re 23, 27, 31, 36. The question really becomes what’s going to happen when you’re 70 years old and you look back at your life and you’re like, why didn’t I try? There’s going to be a regret factor that I think a lot of times a guidance counselor or parent or teacher tend not to think about... They’re worried about your next 10 years. I’m worried about your last 10 years. And in those last 10 years, you’re going to be thinking back... and realizing, Why didn’t I go to Austin (or L.A. or Nashville... whereever you are going)? Why didn’t I take a chance? And really regret that. And that—that tastes a lot worse than going for it, because that’s when you’re most alive.” -Gary Vaynerchuk, March 26, 2013 Interview. • The fear of failure is what stops us from doing any risky in our lives —in finances, in love, and whatever potential futures we have created for ourselves. It sometimes stops us from chasing after what we really want whether it be a job, a partner, or perhaps, materialistic things such as a mansion or a luxury car. If you are not chasing for something bigger in your life by putting everything on the line to chase that want of yours, you haven’t experienced a real adrenaline rush. That’s where your real life begins. It’s when you start demanding and fighting for what you want in life. It’s when you discover what you’re really made of because no one is protecting you but yourself. Not your boss, not the company you work for. It is when you’re most vulnerable. But, most importantly, it’s the most exciting time in your life. The only thing stopping you from this experience is the fear of failure. And what is fear beyond a word we have created? It’s not even tangible. It’s not real. Don’t let the lie of fear of failure prevent you from going after your wants. Just go.

“She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful for the way that she thought. She was beautiful for that sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful for her ability to make other people smile even if she was sad. No, she wasn’t beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful deep down to her soul.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Beautiful And the Damned. • Does she scare you a little? Good. She should make you fear her love. So that when she lets you be apart of it, you don’t take it lightly. Do not take this soul for granted. For she is an unforeseen force, and she can take you to place she never thought you could go; but she is still loving in the midst of it all. Learn her, cherish her, respect her, and love her; for she is much more than a pretty face. Gentlemen, don’t take your ladies for granted.

Everyday is an opportunity to make your life the way you want it to be. Anything is possible when you work toward it. One day at a time. Skip a day and you loose momentum. Try to do it all at once, you burn out. Steadily, consistently work, making everyday count, and you will reach your goals. Today is a chance to grow— to do a little bit more than you did yesterday, a little bit better, a little more effectively. Anyone can do a little more, learn a little more, and grow a little more each day. Soon, with consistent effort, those “little bits” add up to be major accomplishments. No one can monitor your progress except you. Is there something you want to change? Today is the day to start changing it. Is there a new customer you want to land? Today is the day to make it happen. Do you need to loose weight? Today is the day to start eating healthy and go to the gym. Not tomorrow or next Monday or next month— today. You deserve to reach your goals as soon as possible. Control today and ultimately control your life. Get started.
